The mountain village Zadov is one of the most well-known winter holiday centres in the South Bohemian part of the Šumava mountains (Bohemian Forest). The houses are scattered on the meadows on the slopes of Churáňov mountain.
The village lies about 4 km south-west of the small town Stachy on the border of the National Park Šumava, 800 - 1,050 m a.s.l.
This area used to be a domain of the King. The colonization of it started in the middle of the 18th century with the development of the glass-blowing in the Šumava mountains. The settlement of glass-blowers and timbermen was founded here at that time. The former glass-works can be found near the small village Nový Dvůr or the Pucherský Mlýn mill, which was built around 1700 for the powdering of quartz for glass-making.
A lot of stone embankments, which form terraces on the slopes, can be seen in the surroundings. They were built for the protection against the erosion on fields.
The instructive trail, which leads around the top of Churáňov muntain, starts in Zadov.
The scenic lookout called Klostermannovy Skály (Klostermann's Rocks), after the writer Karel Klostermann, the big block of granite, lies not far from the village.
The large sports centre comprises several ski slopes with chair-lift and ski-lifts and a lot of trails for the cross country skiing.
