Varvažov is a village lying about 6 km south-east of the small town Čimelice and about 13 km north of the town Písek on the Skalice river, 426 m a.s.l.
Varvažov was property of the Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem for a long time. The farmstead with mansion were located where the chaplaincy was founded in 1734. From 1847 it was under the ownership of the Schwarzenbergs.
The Baroque mansion originates from the 18th century. The unique Early-Gothic St. Catherine's Church from the 13th century stands beside it.
A two-spanned stone bridge over the Skalice river, which was built in 1781, is an interesting sight too.
The protected area V Obouch lies near the village on the confluence of the Lomnice and Skalice rivers.
