The Landštejn Dam was built on the Pstruhovec stream below the ruins of the Landštejn castle about 8 km west of the town Slavonice and 25 km south-west of the town Jindřichův Hradec.
The dam was built here for the protection of this area against floods. Its construction finished in 1973. The 25 m high and 376 m long revetment holds 40 ha large reservoir, which contains 3.12 million cubic metres of water. Its maximal depth is 21 m.
Several marked tourist trails lead along the dam. The blue one runs from the small town Nové Bystřice (about 10 km) or from the village Český Rudolec (about 15 km). The red one runs from the small town Staré Město pod Landštejnem (about 4 km) and the circular green sign with starting point at the ruins of the Landštejn castle leads there as well.
