Several houses in the Alpine style can be found in Volary and surroundings. They were built by peasants, farmers and stockbreeders and mostly originate from the 18th century.
The typical feature of these houses is the concentration of all homesteads to one unit under only one roof. It is a large two-storeyed wooden building, which has a partially stone ground floor.
On the ground floor were residential rooms, hallway and the so-called "black kitchen". In the central part were cattle-sheds; barns were in the back. Everything is located under a large and low saddle roof. Every house had a balcony in the front.
Typical examples can be seen in Volary, along the road from the square in the direction of the village Lenora, and not far from the railway station.
