The village Horní Vltavice lies above the confluence of the Kubohuťský Potok (Kubova Huť Stream) with the Teplá Vltava river (Hot Vltava) about 11 km south of the town Vimperk, 820 m a.s.l.
The first mention of the village originates from the middle of the 14th century, when it was a part of the domain of the castle town Vimperk.
The most important sight is the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Sts. Joseph and John Nepomucene. Originally it was a small chapel founded in 1714, which was rebuilt into the church in the first half of the 18th century.
