The small village Rybník is situated about 10 km south-west of the town Kaplice, 663 m a.s.l. It is an important South Bohemian railway junction.
One of the oldest electrified railroads in Bohemia leads from Rybník to the village Lipno nad Vltavou. Also the horse-drawn railway between the towns České Budějovice and Linz (Austria) ran through Rybník in past. The remains of this railway can be found around the village.
The monument to F. A. Gerstner, the creator of this tramway, can be seen in the railway station.
