The Renaissance chateau, which stands in the western side of the square, originates from 1550. A part of the town walls with a defensive bastion became part of the new building. After fire in 1561 the chateau was rebuilt, between 1565 - 1572. From 1582 it was used as the town hall.
The present appearance is from the Late-Baroque reconstruction between 1766 - 1770. The two-winged building has the mansard roof and the turret with the dome.
The town museum is located in the chateau now. There are regional historical and geographical exhibitions and a big collection of the Meissen porcelain.
