The small village Čížová is situated about 8 km north-west of the town Písek, 448 m a.s.l.
It used to be property of the Písek castle. The owners often changed there, but mostly it was under the ownership of South Bohemian families.
The oldest building in the village is the Gothic Church of St. James the Greater. It was build on the small hill above the village in the second half of the 13th century. The Renaissance mansion from the 16th century and the Baroque hospital from 1863 are another places of interest in Čížová.
The wooden cross, standing near the railway-crossing in the place of the mass tomb of the Frenchmen, commemorates the battle on 22th December 1741, when the French soldiers were ambushed by the Austrian hussars here.
