Svatý Jan nad Malší is a small village about 10 km north of the town Kaplice and about 5 km east of the small town Velešín. Its location on the hill above the Malše river in 614 m a.s.l. makes it a good place fors viewing of the country.
In the 18th century the village became an important pilgrimage place. The local Church of St. John Nepomucene originates in the Baroque style. The cloister was added between 1778 - 1782.
There are nice views of the region from the church - Českobudějovická Pánev basin and Kleť mountain.
