The fortress lies about 3 km north of the village Záblatí and about 5 km west of the town Prachatice.
The history of the fortress dates back to the 14th century. In 1548 the fortress became a property of the Rožmberks. At that time a brewery was established there. In 1619 the fortress was plundered by the Emperor's army. The new owner Oldřich of Eggenberg restored it. From the 18th century it was under the ownership of the Schwarzenbergs and it was used as a granary.
