The Býšov fortress is located about 7 km south of the town Týn nad Vltavou in the neigbourhood of the Temelín nuclear power station.
The fortress belongs to the best preserved sights of this type in South Bohemia. The history of Býšov dates back to the second half of the 14th century. The village with the fortress are mentioned here in 1395, they were under the ownership of the Býšovci brothers from Býšov. The next owners, the Malovcové from Malovice, connected the village to the property of the Hluboká castle. At that time the fortress was used as a storehouse. Later proprietors often changed, the Schwarzenbergs were among them.
The dominant feature of the fortress is 20 m high residential tower with square groundplan (10 × 10 m). It stands above the pond by the former yard. The unique wooden ceilings in the tower have been preserved up till present.
Access to the fortress is possible from the road Týn nad Vltavou – České Budějovice. Near the Temelín power station there is a turning-off to the left in the direction of the village Knín, which leads to Býšov.
